After multiple redesigns to refine the proposed Belmont Beach and Aquatics Center, the Granada Beach project is closer than ever to breaking ground, with an anticipated completion date in 2027.Located at 4320 E. Olympic Plaza, right on the waterfront, the state-of-the-art complex will consist of a 50-meter competition pool, separate recreational and instructional pool, and main building. It’s being designed to provide a range of aquatic opportunities for all ages and abilities.
Primary goals for Belmont Pool include space for competitive swimming, swim lessons, therapy programs and recreational water play, all within a fun and architecturally significant environment.
The pool complex will feature:
- A 50-meter competition pool with a moveable bulkhead, springboard diving, and variable depths to accommodate a range of activities;
- A recreational and instructional pool with a zero-depth entry, spray features, a vortex, and three swim lanes;
- Deployable volleyball, zipline and climbing wall features;
- Shaded spectator seating and bleachers with 544 seats;
- Locker rooms and family changing rooms;
- Indoor and beachfront restrooms; and
- Staff offices, a ticketing counter, and a multipurpose room.
This long-awaited development has been in the works since the demolition of the 47-year-old Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in 2014 due to safety concerns. After four redesigns and years of planning, the project is now awaiting California Coastal Commission approval before moving into the next development phase.
Construction is tentatively set to begin later this summer or fall and wrap in 2027.
