Long Beach’s new Junipero Beach Sports Court is already proving to be a slam dunk.
The city’s much-anticipated recreational gem officially opened on March 15, 2025, with city officials cutting a ceremonial ribbon before the real action began at 2630 E. Ocean Blvd. The project includes a dedicated roller-skating area, a full basketball court, shade structures and integrated seating.

With sunny skies, skaters have wasted no time rolling onto this newest beachside attraction. The basketball court, too, which compliments some existing courts, has quickly filled with high-energy pickup games, with space for spectators to cheer on the players.
Revitalizing one of Long Beach’s most iconic coastal locations was no small undertaking.
The Junipero Beach Sports Court is the latest triumph of the city’s Elevate ’28 initiative, a comprehensive five-year infrastructure program aimed at revitalizing parks and public spaces throughout Long Beach ahead of the 2028 Summer Olympics. Elevate ’28 also aims to enhance accessibility and promote the use of multimodal transportation throughout the city.
Long Beach has once again proven that when it comes to blending recreation with coastal beauty, it knows how to deliver.
